I Can Hear You

In the middle of a lousy speech

What typical politicians do

A man interrupts from the crowd

“We can’t hear you.”

But without missing a beat like

What our first responders do

Bush passionately yells back

“I can hear you.” 

My eyes began to swell up

What our raw emotions do 

Feeling the fire of a nation 

“I can hear you.”

Perhaps that’s the big point

What painful experiences do

They give opportunities to say 

“I can hear you.”

Quick to listen to our neighbor

What actual people do

It’s amazing, off of Facebook 

“I can hear you.”

If only we were still unified

What humbled nations do

You wouldn’t have to wonder if 

“I can hear you.”
