Salt in my Coffee

Salt in my Coffee

Mom says how you doing dad?

And he lasts just till... he's doing bad.

I mean how good can a guy really be

To lose the only woman- His whole story

I keep my head down as the grand son

Seeing grand pop cry ain't exactly fun

I'm listening to the breaks in his voice

The "take me too" if he had his choice

Head down, ears tuned into a story told

Of a love thats beginning is 60 years old

She left him here and he's crying out

In a room of family filled throughout

And to avoid the streams of ...

And to have had that love...

A few tears fall from my cheek

A little bit of salt in my coffee

never tasted so sweet.

And the dog knows, I know she does

Shes lying in the bed where her human was

I need a cup of coffee to help me think clear

Staring down at my cup, it's painful here

No where's comfortable in such a comfortable home

I find myself staring at the ground all alone

Just listening to family, daughters and sons

Moms and dads and gathered loved ones

Head down, ears tuned into a story told

Every word about her is only pure gold

“Nearly sixty years of waking up

Next to the same” ... I hear him choke up

And to avoid the streams of ...

And to have had that love...

A few tears fall from my cheek

A little bit of salt in my coffee

never tasted so sweet.

...

In between all the sobs he seems alright Confident in where she's spending tonight

Head down, ears tuned into a story told

No one here tonight for him to hold

Yet a peculiar smile as we sit in the den

He says “Don't worry son, we'll see her again”

And to avoid the streams of ...

And to have had that love...

A few tears fall from my cheek

A little bit of salt in my coffee

never tasted so sweet.

And to avoid the streams of ...

And to have that love...

A few tears fall from my cheek

A little bit of salt in my coffee

never tasted so sweet.
