My Baby is Still

My Baby is Still

The house is dark, my baby is still

No anticipation of excitement or frill

Just here in the moment that the morning brought

Me, my coffee, my dog and my thoughts

The wife- still snoozing in conflict with the sun

It’s light creeping in at 6:21

While the peace that our one gives in his crib still asleep

A different stillness lingers as I begin to weep

Just here in the moment that the mourning brought

Me, my coffee, my dog and my thoughts

No anticipation of excitement or frill

The house is dark, my baby is still
